Obi-Wan Kenobi confirms Marvel’s Loki Composer

Star Wars’ upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+ has shut down Natalie Holt, Emmy-nominated composer for Marvel’s Loki TV series. Holt will be the first woman to score in the Star Wars Project (!), which is a feat that is both awesome and brutal. Holt will also be teaming with Star Wars music icon John Williams, who is reproducing an original piece of thematic music for this version of Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor reprise), who spent ten years in exile on the planet Tatooine. He watches and waits for young Luke Skywalker to come of age and accept his fate.

Of course, the other big thrill of the Obi-Wan series will be Kenobi finally having to face what has become his “brother” Anakin Skywalker – quite literally, as Kenobi and Darth Vader are set for an epic duel (or two) in a show.

With all that on the table, it’s no surprise that Natalie Holt has set a clear goal for her composition style:

“Obviously, I am very happy to be memorialized at the same time as John Williams,” said Holt. Vanity Fair. “It was exciting and overwhelming at times, because I’m such a fan. I want to respect his history, and also respect him.”

In the longer profile clip, Holt describes being a Star Wars fan since she was five years old, and how John Williams’ work is involved for her: “For me, the support poles were put in place by John Williams. There are elements of the show that are new and fresh, and I’ve managed From having my own interpretation with the items – which I can’t reveal. So it was glorious, working with my hero and also bringing my own voice to the show.”

So far, the audience has not heard any of Holt’s compositions. The Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer instead used the popular Star Wars anthem “Duel of the Fates” to make the noise. Holt was ready to tease at least what fans wanted when John Williams’ new Obi-Wan theme was finally revealed:

“It’s a reflection, and it’s a perfect fit. It sums up what the show is about in the perfect way that John Williams can do. It’s sad, but there’s an element of hope in it. He’s doing something new and I think people are going to really explode with it.”

Holt wowed fans with her outlandish musical scores for Marvel’s Loki and TVA shennanigans; She will also be recording DC’s upcoming Batgirl movie on HBO Max.
